Mike Yager gives EIU Keynote Address

Mid America Motorworks’ Mike Yager to speak at Lumpkin College of Business during Global Entrepreneurship Week

Effingham, Ill. – Mike Yager, Chief Cheerleader and founder of Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Ill. will deliver the Nov. 17 Keynote address at 6:15 p.m. at Eastern Illinois University’s Lumpkin College of Business as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

An EIU alumnus, Yager will discuss his path from selling Corvette accessories out of the trunk of a borrowed car, to becoming a world leader in supplying parts and accessories to Corvette and Air-Cooled VW enthusiasts.

“Academics are critically important, but it’s also important to have exposure to businesses; to hear, see, feel what really happens from businesses of all levels,” Yager said. “A small business will handle international relations differently than a corporation. It’s good for students to get a full view of those differences.”

Yager is a former member of the Lumpkin College of Business Advisory Board. He supports entrepreneurial efforts locally through his involvement with CEO, Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities, a course that gives high school students in Effingham County hands-on experience operating businesses.

Global Entrepreneurship Week aims to connect young adults worldwide to give them the resources to become effective self-starters and innovators. Activities are coordinated locally, nationally and globally to foster the entrepreneurial spirit.
